Nintendo Wii or Sony Playstation 3?

Microsoft Zune or Apple iPod?

Coke or Pepsi?

David Miller or Jane Pitfield?

Iraq or Afghanistan?

Liberal or Conservative?

Where is the intelligent media? Where are all the shades of grey? Why is everything being pre-digested and simplified into A-or-B choices for us these days?

We’re worried about social problems like obesity and smoking because you’re either fat or skinny, a smoker or a non-smoker. We’ve become so binary in our thought processes. We should really be worried about our brains going soft on us.

We should demand more from our media. And we should demand more from ourselves. Read, research, listen, observe. There are more multiple-choice and short-answer questions in life than there are True/False.

Can you tell I’m pissed at the Sunday newspaper today? Stupid black-and-white.

Either the Canadian federal government has just been exposed for using some very unconventional tactics to boost productivity in the economy, or the Google News selection and matching algorithm is a bit obsessed with the current alleged terrorist arrests in Toronto and got a little overzealous when matching the picture with the headlines. (I’m guessing there’s a window of opportunity to see this live on Google News before it gets properly matched, so if you’re reading this too late, you’ll have to take the word of my screen capture here. No Photoshopping, I promise!)

Today’s date is 06-6-6. The lame remake of cult classic The Omen comes out today. Canada’s own fiddlin’ urination station Ashley MacIsaac is allegedly trying to secure his 666th supporter for his Federal Liberal leadership campaign today.

Sounds like the end of the world to me.

gore: better hollywood activist than veep

Some of Al Gore’s close family and friends obviously decided to go to extremes when they banded together and talked him out of running for office again. They went so far as to tell him with straight faces and sincere voices that his honest face, top notch PowerPoint presentation skills, and faux grey hair were perfect for social activism.

Joining the ranks of Pam Anderson, Paul McCartney, and Edward Norton, Al Gore is on the Environmental Trail.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t speak first hand, but word on the street is that Al is pretty convincing and persuasive. I guess I just wonder if a) his motives are pure, or if this is a great way to build some goodwill and press clippings for another presidential run, and b) his success is due to his undying passion for the environment and all things "global cooling", or the PPT jockey who whipped together his hypnotic presentation.
