Number_629
I am officially the proud new owner of the number 629.  These things are selling like hotcakes, and something tells me they will appreciate in value once the collection is sold, so if you consider yourself a connaisseur of mathematical art (and who doesn’t these days?) swing on over to Sala’s website.

The thing I love most about this art project is that the entire experience and package is part of the art itself.  The concept, the website, the way in which each buyer decides on the number he or she wants to buy.  Brilliant stuff.

[Update: The viral marketing behind the sudden insane growth in Sala's sales over the past week is fascinating to me.  Or is it just a spike?  Two days of nearly 200/day, and now back down to a relative daily trickle of orders.  He is kind enough to be transparent in his blog about the pace of sales since he started back in early 2006, and some recent blog posts by boingboing, Seth Godin, and Brian explore the story behind the story.]

If I tell you it was only a couple hundred and change (scroll down the Availability page on his site and you’ll see the prices of the paintings in the 600’s) will I lose a fan? :)

About this blog

Formerly titled "one man's pop culture commentary", I've decided to re-label this for a few reasons:
(1) It's now home for all my online 'stuff'
(2) the search engines like it better
(3) the posts will be less pop-culture focused

Thanks for dropping by.
